CHICAGO, IL – January 14, 2015 – The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) Board of Directors has awarded a total of $39,375 to nine nonprofit organizations across Illinois for development and production of public humanities projects. Community support for these projects totaled $405,489. The grantees are:

• An American Home: Frank Lloyd Wright’s B. Harley Bradley House – Chicago Filmmakers ($5,000) Funding to support the production and post-production of An American Home, Frank Lloyd Wright’s B. Harley Bradley House, a documentary about the Bradley House in Kankakee, IL.

• The Alton School Desegregation Case 100 Years Later – Lewis and Clark Community College ($5,000) Funding to support an exhibition on the Alton School Case, an important milestone in race relations in Illinois at the Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities at Lewis and Clark Community College.

• Downstate Illinois Vietnam Stories – Illinois Public Media ($5,000) Funding to support a series of sixteen interviews about the impact of the Vietnam War on downstate Illinois, which will be developed into public media content.

• Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker: A Man in Two Worlds and a Woman of Two Worlds – Booth Library at Eastern Illinois University ($5,000) Funding to support the traveling exhibition and program series on the relationship of indigenous peoples and settlers in early Illinois history.

• The Streets and the Classroom: Education and Industrial Films in an Era of Massive Social Change – South Side Projections ($2,950) Funding to support four free, interconnected screenings of education and industrial films on the South Side of Chicago.

• Free at First: A Conversation with AACM Founders – DuSable Museum of African American History ($5,000) Funding to support public programs in support of an exhibit on the 50th anniversary of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) between February and August 2015.

• General Support Grant – Poetry Center of Chicago ($2,850) Funding to support Hands on Stanzas, poet-in-residence program at the Poetry Center of Chicago.

• One Book, One Freeport – Freeport Public Library ($4,835) Funding to support the series of public events surrounding One Book, One Freeport selection between February and April 2015.

• Chicago’s Families – Chicago Cultural Alliance ($3,740) Funding to support program series on family and food in Chicago between May and October 2015.

Any nonprofit group, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for financial support from the IHC. The IHC funds public projects in the humanities, including documentary films, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects. Nonprofits with annual budgets of $250,000 or less can apply for technical assistance grants, and nonprofits with a primary focus on the humanities can apply for general support grants.
