THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AT AGE 100

A Road Scholar Program by Norman Moline

The National Park Service (NPS), sometimes described as “America’s Best Idea,” celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.

The NPS set aside sites that are particularly beautiful or that are scientifically or historically significant and made them available to the public on a scale unprecedented in world history. Although spectacular places in western states and coastal regions may initially come to mind, some of the nearly 500 NPS sites are in the Midwest.

Accomplished cultural geographer Norman Moline will present highlights of NPS history and then focus on sites in Illinois and adjacent states. Learn more about Norman Moline.
