Marshall Public Library and Illinois Humanities present an introductory workshop about oral history documentation of agricultural activity and other aspects of rural and small-town life.

The workshop is intended especially for representatives of libraries, museums, historical societies, schools, civic organizations, and other institutions that are interested in undertaking projects documenting local history and culture or establishing documentation programs within their organizations but have limited experience.

Representatives of Marshall Public Library’s successful oral history documentation program will share their knowledge. The workshop will also feature presentations by oral historian and author Kay Rippelmeyer-Tippy, photographer and documentarian Ben Halpern, and folklorist and Veterans’ History Project representative Susan Eleuterio, as well as an opportunity to observe oral history interviews with residents of the Marshall area.

The workshop will serve as an outgrowth of Illinois Humanities’ 2016 program series, Seeding Change?: The Future of Our Farms and Communities, as well as a prelude to Marshall Public Library’s hosting of a Museum on Main Street exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution and Illinois Humanities entitled Crossroads: Change in Rural America from March 23 to May 4, 2019.
