Harriet Tubman: The New Face on the 20-Dollar Bill

A Road Scholar Program by Marlene Rivero

After escaping from slavery, herself, Harriet Tubman helped numerous enslaved people escape to freedom through the Underground Railroad. She assisted John Brown in recruiting abolitionists for the raid on Harpers Ferry, led a Union Army raid in South Carolina that liberated hundreds of slaves during the Civil War, and advocated for women’s suffrage after the war.

Harriet Tubman’s extraordinary achievements have received renewed attention because of the selection of her image to replace President Andrew Jackson’s on the twenty-dollar bill.

Marlene will portray Harriet Tubman, encouraging audiences to learn from her courage, tenacity, and perseverance. Learn more about Marlene Rivero.
