A Road Scholar Program by Phil Passen
Originally developed to commemorate Illinois’ Bicentennial, this program of music reflects the story of Illinois, which is shaped not only by the land (prairie, Great Lakes, Mississippi River), but also by the many cultures which have thrived in it, beginning with Native Americans, and including French, German, African-American, Mexican, and other immigrant groups.
The program includes songs about farmers, workers and labor struggles, as well as disasters and tragedies. Showcasing even a little blues and rock and roll, the program is an informative and entertaining look at Illinois, its history, and its people.
This event is Free and Open to the public. For more information, please contact Matt Miller at mmiller@putnamcountylibrary.org.
