Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Promontory:
ICE Cellos

The three cellos of ICE (Katinka Kleijn, Michael Nicolas, and Kivie Cahn-Lipman) present works for violoncello trio, duo, and solo. The repertoire spans from Jacobean England to the twenty-first century, including world premiere performances of music by composers Mario Diaz de Leon and Vincent Calianno.

Katinka Kleijn and David Bowlin

Founding ICE violinist David Bowlin and Chicago-based ICE cellist Katinka Kleijn perform a rare duo program.  The works performed will comprise a series of “portraits” of Kleijn and Bowlin, who are longtime friends and collaborators, by several known composers who will include improvisational elements in their pieces.  The program is topped off by the hauntingly powerful and complex String Duo by Sofia Gubaidulina.

Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Promontory:
Untempered

This unique program, titled “Untempered,” explores music by composers who play in the nooks and crannies of musical tuning systems. Integrating phenomenon such as beatings and pitch discrepancies inherent in instrument design, composers Larry Polansky, Peter Adriaansz, and Karola Obermueller pose an outsider lineage in modern composition, opening our awareness of the acoustic realities and necessities of music.
