ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL AWARDS $28,480 IN GRANTS TO EIGHT LOCAL NONPROFITS

CHICAGO The Illinois Humanities Council Board of Directors has awarded a total of $28,480 to eight nonprofit organizations across Illinois for development and production of public humanities projects. Community support for these projects totaled $36,715.  The grantees are:

  • Improvisation: A Dialogue with Jazz, Western Illinois Museum, Macomb ($2,000)
  • General Support Grant, General John A. Logan Museum, Murphysboro ($4,980)
  • Archeology Day 2011, Center for American Archeology, Kampsville ($2,000)
  • Memory and Heart: Pasts and Presents of African American Communities, New Philadelphia Association, Griggsville ($2,500)
  • Working on the Railroad, Savanna Historical Society, Savanna ($5,000)
  • General Support Grant, Guild Complex, Chicago ($5,000)
  • Building Meaningful Museum Collections, Illinois Heritage Association, Champaign ($2,000)
  • Hope and Spirit, Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture, Chicago ($5,000)

The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) invites nonprofit organizations to apply for its next cycles of grant awards by July 15, 2011. Any nonprofit group, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for financial support from the Illinois Humanities Council. The IHC funds public projects in the humanities, including documentary films, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects. Nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of $250,000 or less can apply for technical assistance grants, and nonprofits with a primary focus on the humanities can apply for general support grants.

The IHC makes it a priority to fund projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new or historically neglected audiences. The IHC also encourages applications for projects about American history and culture.
