ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL AWARDS $32,000 IN GRANTS TO SEVEN LOCAL NONPROFITS

CHICAGO – The Illinois Humanities Council Board of Directors has awarded a total of $32,000 to seven nonprofit organizations across Illinois for development and production of public humanities projects. Community support for these projects totaled $348,191.  The grantees are:

 

  • History Speaks: A Civil War Sesquicentennial Series, Naperville Heritage Society, Naperville ($2,000) 
  • Garlic & Greens: Accessible Soul Food Stories, Archeworks, Chicago ($5,000) 
  • Birthday: A Dorothea Tanning Symposium, Knox College, Galesburg ($5,000) 
  • Chicago’s Living Legends of Gospel Roundtable Series, Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum, Chicago ($5,000) 
  • General Support Grant, Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, Evanston ($5,000) 
  • Englewood Initiative Arts Education Program, Young Chicago Authors, Chicago ($5,000) 
  • Humboldt Park Mural Program Curriculum Project, Archi-treasures, Chicago ($2,000) 

 The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) invites nonprofit organizations to apply for its next cycles of grant awards by April 15, 2011. Any nonprofit group, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for financial support from the Illinois Humanities Council. The IHC funds public projects in the humanities, including documentary films, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects. Nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of $250,000 or less can apply for technical assistance grants, and nonprofits with a primary focus on the humanities can apply for general support grants.

The IHC makes it a priority to fund projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new or historically neglected audiences. The IHC also encourages applications for projects about American history and culture.
