ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL AWARDS $25,200 IN GRANTS TO SIX LOCAL NONPROFITS

Next grant deadlines July 15 and October 15, 2010

CHICAGO – The Illinois Humanities Council Board of Directors has awarded a total of $25,200 to six nonprofit organizations across Illinois for development and production of public humanities projects. Community support for these projects totaled $460,556. The grantees are:

  • The Humanities for Women in Prison: The Persephone Project at Lake County Jail, Stillpoint Theatre Collective, Chicago ($5,000) 
  • The African American Mixed Media Poetry Project, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville ($3,700)
  • Redmoon Neighborhood Arts Program, Redmoon Theater, Chicago ($4,500)
  • Journey of the Asian Carp, Media Grant, Long Haul Productions, Western Illinois ($5,000)
  • Chicago Cultural Alliance, General Support Grant ($5,000)
  • The 3G Summit: The Future of Girls, Gaming, and Gender, Columbia College, Chicago ($2,000)

The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) invites nonprofit organizations to apply for its next cycles of grant awards by July 15 and October 15, 2010. Any nonprofit group, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for financial support from the Illinois Humanities Council. The IHC funds public projects in the humanities, including documentary films, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects. Nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of $250,000 or less can apply for technical assistance grants, and nonprofits with a primary focus on the humanities can apply for general support grants.

IHC program officers are also available for consultation, and new applicants are encouraged to contact program officers for grant advice.

The IHC makes it a priority to fund projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new or historically neglected audiences. The IHC also encourages applications for projects about American history and culture.
