Grant seekers invited to attend workshop on application process for
Illinois Humanities Council Community Grants.
CHICAGO — The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) invites representatives from nonprofit organizations to a free IHC Community Grant Application & Humanities Resource Workshop on Friday, April 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This workshop will be held at WIUM – Tri-States Public Radio at Western Illinois University (900 W. Adams St., Macomb). Lunch will be provided.
IHC Program Officer Ryan Lewis will take representatives through the IHC’s newly-revised Community Grant application process. Attendees will then participate in facilitated roundtable exchanges about fundraising, communication strategies, and other issues facing nonprofit organizations today featuring special guests from WIUM. During lunch, IHC staff members will give an overview of other resources available to nonprofits through the IHC, including a demonstration of the DIY Café Society Toolkit.

Any nonprofit group, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for financial support from the Illinois Humanities Council. The IHC funds public projects in the humanities, including documentary films, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects. Nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of $250,000 or less can apply for technical assistance grants, and nonprofits with a primary focus on the humanities can apply for general support grants. The next grant application deadlines are April 15, 2010 and July 15, 2010.
The IHC puts a priority on funding projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new or historically neglected audiences. These include—but are not limited to—residents of rural communities, men and women with little formal education, inner city or other underserved youth (in after-school or weekend programs), people who are economically disadvantaged, or the elderly. The IHC especially invites applications from organizations that serve these communities and strongly encourages other applicants to extend their programs to include such audiences. The IHC also encourages applications for projects about American history and culture.
