The Illinois Humanities Council presents another program in its series:
All-Consuming: Conversations on Oil and Water
CHICAGO – How do people along rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water embrace them as part of their identity, culture, and community? How have the great rivers in Western Illinois shaped history? In “Reflecting Pool: Water and Regional Expressions of Culture and Identity,” panelists will explore water, identity, and community in literature, art, and history.
This event will take place on Thursday, September 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Galesburg Public Library (40 E. Simmons St., Galesburg). It is free and open to the public; reservations are not required. For more information, visit www.prairie.org/OilandWater or call 312.422.5580.
The panelists for this program are: Gregory Vogel, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; John Hallwas, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Department of English, Western Illinois University; Diane Dillon, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Research and Education, Newberry Library; and Ryan Lewis, Program Officer, Illinois Humanities Council (moderator).

From Fall 2008 to Fall 2009, the Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) presents All-Consuming: Conversations on Oil and Water, a year-long statewide series aimed to increase public knowledge of oil and water issues by engaging Illinoisans in conversations about the individual, regional, and global impact of these two essential resources. Programs will feature scholars, scientists, ethicists, artists, and philosophers as guest speakers.
