CHICAGO – Join The Public Square, a program of the Illinois Humanities Council, and the Gender and Women’s Studies Program at UIC for a lecture by acclaimed poet Elizabeth Alexander on Tuesday, April 7th  at 4:00 p.m. at the UIC Forum (725 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago).

Alexander performed her poem, "Praise Song for the Day," at the inauguration of President Barack Obama on January 20, 2009. Alexander is currently a professor of African-American Studies at Yale University and the incoming chair of that department. Her most recent books are the poetry collection American Sublime (2005) and the essay collection Power and Possibility (2007).
