The Illinois Humanities Council presents another program in its series:
All-Consuming: Conversations on Oil and Water
CHICAGO – What are the main water demands in Western Illinois, and how do we decide how those demands are met? How can understanding the history of water use and pollution of the Mississippi River guide the choices we make today? What are the ethical issues inherent in the conflict between our immediate needs and those of future generations? In "It All Flows Downstream: Water Consumption and Consequences," panelists will raise key questions about how we access and control water in Western Illinois.

The panelists for this program are: John Anfinson, Ph.D., Historian, Mississippi National River and Recreation Area; Misganaw Demissie, Ph.D., Director, Illinois State Water Survey; Christopher H. Pearson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and Paul Heltne, Ph.D., Director, Center for Humans and Nature (moderator).

From Fall 2008 to Fall 2009, the Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) presents All-Consuming: Conversations on Oil and Water, a year-long statewide series aimed to increase public knowledge of oil and water issues by engaging Illinoisans in conversations about the individual, regional, and global impact of these two essential resources.
