Illinois Humanities Council-sponsored series will air on 98.7 WFMT February 2006
CHICAGO –The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) is pleased to announce that “Voices: A Collection of Illinois Stories,” a radio series produced in partnership with 98.7 WFMT (Chicago’s Classical Experience) will air in February through April. “Illinois Stories” is an eight-part radio series that features programs funded and created by the IHC.
“Voices: A Collection of Illinois Stories,” can be heard on 98.7 WFMT every Monday at 6:50 p.m. and every Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. beginning February 20and running through April 15. Each segment will also be available on the 98.7 WFMT website for on-demand listening at www.wfmt.com. Segments have been distributed statewide (check your local listings).
“Voices: A Collection of Illinois Stories” showcases a wide variety of programs created or funded by the Illinois Humanities Council, including:
About Face Theatre’s recent “Home Project,” a play about gay youth homelessness in Chicago; (will air February 20 – repeat on February 25)
conversations at Ron’s Barbershop in the Austin neighborhood in Chicago, part of a citywide program called Café Society, which promotes civic dialogue by creating a space where complete strangers can talk, argue, analyze and agree on a variety of topics; (will air February 27 – repeat on March 4)
a Smithsonian exhibition in Taylorville focusing on the history of food in United States culture and society; (will air March 6 – repeat on March 11)
the story of the short but talented life of one of Illinois’ first documentary photographers, Frank Sadorus; (will air March 13 –repeat on March 18)
the history of the banjo as told through folk song at the Pekin farmer’s market; (March 20 – repeat on March 25)
conversations between health care workers that take place as part of “Literature & Medicine,” a reading and discussion program at Illinois hospitals; (March 27 – repeat on April 1)
a “Justice Talking” seminar where Chicago’s newest volunteers tell us what is on their minds; (April 3 – repeat on April 8)
and interviews with Chicago’s African American dance legends. (April 10 – repeat on April 15)
“Voices: A Collection of Illinois Stories” was underwritten by the Illinois Humanities Council. The series was produced and reported by Jesse Hardman for the WFMT Radio Network, and edited and mixed in the studios of 98.7 WFMT.
