ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL ANNOUNCES FREE PROGRAM WORKSHOP FOR LASALLE AND NORTHERN ILLINOIS REGION

Workshop to feature IHC programs and grants

CHICAGO—The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) invites non-profit organizations with an interest in public humanities programs to a free program workshop, co-sponsored by the LaSalle Public Library, on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, from 9:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. This workshop will be held at the LaSalle Public Library at 305 Marquette Street in LaSalle. IHC program officers will staff the meeting and discuss council-conducted programs like the “Road Scholars Speakers Bureau” and Museum on Main Street, and will provide information on how to apply to the Grants Program for various types of projects – including documentary films, local and community history projects, reading and discussion programs, and lecture series. Any non-profit organization or institution is eligible to receive IHC support for a public project in the humanities.

Space is limited and registration is required. To register for this workshop, please contact Donna Blomquist at the LaSalle Public Library at 815.223.2341, or send e-mail to dmblomquist@lasalle.lib.il.us. The IHC makes it a priority to fund projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new or historically neglected audiences. The IHC’s deadline for submitting proposals for the next cycle of major grants is July 15; the next deadline for mini grant proposals is April 15.

The Illinois Humanities Council is a nonprofit educational organization [501 (c) 3] dedicated to fostering a culture in which the humanities are a vital part of the lives of individuals and communities. The IHC is supported by state, federal, and private funds.
