Angel Ysaguirre honored by CYCLE for service to low-income youth

CHICAGO – The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) is pleased to announce that Angel Ysaguirre, the IHC’s Director of Programs, has been awarded the Community Youth Creative Learning Experience (CYCLE) "Decade Award" for a decade of excellence in service to low-income youth. The award will be given at the 42nd Annual CYCLE Awards ceremony on December 16, 2003 at 5:30pm at Philanders of Oak Park, 1120 Pleasant St.

"Angel has, for the past decade, made exemplary contributions to scholarly learning for low-income children and youth," said CYCLE Executive Director, Connie VanBrunt. "Specifically, he founded the ‘Book of Wiz Kids’ program, which provides very good books for kids in our program that they can take home with them. We salute him for that. Beyond that, through his work at the Illinois Humanities Council, he has included very low-income children and youth in the very highest level of scholarly achievement, such as our ‘Urban Anthropology Project.’ He continues to be a voice for very high level programming for children and youth."

Founded in 1963, CYCLE, a Chicago-area educational and career development organization for the children of the city’s Cabrini-Green and surrounding Near North community, provides after-school and evening tutorial programs, summer academic day camp, scholarship/college opportunity programs, adult services, and child care services to low-income families.
