Donald Hey, president and co-founder of The Wetlands Initiative, will share an ingenious land-use concept–the “growing ” of wetlands on flood-prone areas as an alternative to corn, soybeans, or industry/housing. In addition to expanding all-important flood storage capacity and eliminating commercial enterprises from risky floodplains, the expanded wetlands would themselves produce a “harvest” of nitrogen and phosphorus.
