The Trojan War and American Political Cartoons

Ancient Greek stories about Achilles’ heel, the Trojan horse, and Helen of Troy are still part of popular culture today. In this illustrated lecture (slide or power point available), a variety of cartoons about these myths dealing with the Trojan War will be shown. In addition to explaining the many ways in which cartoonists use these myths to amuse their audiences, the issue of how the same myths are used for serious political purposes including commentary on American politics, the presidency, and foreign policy, will also be addressed. This presentation can be adapted to various audience levels. For more information contact John Makowski, 773.743.0143.
