Local author and historian Herb Russell will present a talk on his new book about the region’s history August 20 at the Gen. John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro. Russell will be talking about his new book, "The State of Southern Illinois," starting at 7 p.m. in the museum, located at 1613 Edith St. The book is an illustrated history of the Southern Illinois region, encompassing all points between Salem and Cairo. Russell’s talk is being presented as part of an ongoing speaker series being hosted by the museum for the Civil War Sesquicentennial. The Bookworm in Carbondale will be selling copies of Russell’s book at the event and the author will be available for signings after the presentation.
