On 29 August 1945, the B-29 "Hog Wild" was on a humanitarian mission to drop supplies to British and Australian captives in the Konan POW camp outside of Ham-hung in northern Korea when Russian Yak fighters brought the super fortress down for reasons that are still being debated today. What is not up for debate is that this military event changed the status of Russia and the United States in the world from that of victorious wartime allies to Cold War adversaries.
