A Road Scholar Program by Dennis Cremin

Settled at the confluence of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, Chicago’s development is intrinsically tied to its geographic location as a transportation hub. Boats and, later, the railroads were key components in shaping the lakefront well into the 20th century. Author and historian, Dennis Cremin, will discuss the impact of the Illinois Central Railroad on the development of Grant Park and the south lakefront park system.

Dennis Cremin holds a PhD in History from Loyola University Chicago and has taught at College of DuPage, Joliet Junior College, Loyola University Chicago, North Central College, and is currently Assistant Professor at Lewis University. He has also served as the Historian and Director of Research and Public Programs for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Gaylord Building in Lockport, Illinois.
