The History of the Chicago Blues Community

A Road Scholar program by Katherine Davis & Erwin Helfer

From its inception, the blues has always provided the platform and resources for interracial dialogue. In Chicago, this is demonstrated by the creation of what may be called the blues community that was made up of people from a variety of ethnic and gender groups. It is this diversity that contributed to the birth of a vibrant and nationally appealing blues scene. In this interactive music and lecture program, the artists’ will draw from their vast experiences performing the blues for, and interacting with, multiracial audiences throughout the United States.
