Michael Hanes, Professor Emeritus of Music at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, will present the history of community bands and its relation to Southern Illinois. No stranger to marching bands, Mr. Hanes has been teaching at SIU since 1965 and oversees all aspects of the band program, conducting the University Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.
