Sun Ra in Chicago: Musical Recollections

Sun Ra‘s most important ensemble, the Arkestra, was formed in Chicago in the mid 1950s, where it played at various clubs on the South Side, like Budland and the Wonder Inn, as well as North Side social clubs.

This event features reminiscences, both played and spoken, from Sun Ra’s Chicago-era associates, including Hattie Randolph, Lucious Randolph, Robert Barry, Art Hoyle, and Ricky Murray, all members of his 1950s Arkestra.

Journalist, curator, musician, and critic John Corbett will moderate.

The event is part of Traveling the Spaceways: The Astro Black and Other Solar Myths symposium.
