Southern Illinois Wonders presents "The Underground Railroad" featuring Carol Pirtle

As part of its new radio program series, Southern Illinois Wonders, produced by WSIU Public Broadcasting, the IHC presents “The Underground Railroad” featuring Carol Pirtle.

Carol Pirtle will speak on the Underground Railroad in southwestern Illinois and the role of Reformed Presbyterians in its development at 6:30a, 8:30a, and 5:29p on Wednesday, March 12th on WSIU 91.9FM / WUSI 90.3FM / WVSI 88.9FM.

Carol Pirtle is a professional writer and regional historian. Her books include Escape Betwixt Two Suns: A True Tale of the Underground Railroad in Illinois (Southern Illinois University Press, 2000), which received an Illinois State Historical Society Superior Achievement Award in 2001. A graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, with a B.A. in English and history, she lives in Sparta and is a former director of the Sparta Public Library.

This event is part of Southern Illinois Wonders, a series of five-minute radio programs produced by WSIU Public Broadcasting in which authors, scholars, and artists explore humanities topics and themes relating to southern Illinois on Wednesdays at 6:30a, 8:30a, and 5:29p on WSIU 91.9FM / WUSI 90.3FM / WVSI 88.9FM.
