On this week’s Southern Illinois Wonders, novelist Laura Benedict ponders her own penchant for paranoia (alliteration intended) and its influence on her artistic vision.

This conversation will air at 6:30a, 8:30a, and 5:29p on Wednesday, May 14th on WSIU 91.9FM / WUSI 90.3FM / WVSI 88.9FM.

Laura Benedict is the author of Bliss House, a novel of supernatural suspense, to be published by Pegasus in June. Her work also includes the novels Devil’s Oven (Gallowstree, 2012), Calling Mr. Lonely Hearts (Ballantine, 2008), and Isabella Moon (Ballantine, 2007). Her writing has appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and numerous anthologies. With her husband, Pinckney Benedict (a professor of creative writing at SIU Carbondale), she founded and edited the Surreal South: An Anthology of Short Fiction series, published by Press 53. She also edited the crime fiction anthology Feeding Kate (Gallowstree, 2012) to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America. In June, she will teach at the Tinker Mountain Writers’ Workshop at Hollins University in Virginia. Born in Cincinnati, Laura Benedict was raised in suburban Cincinnati and Louisville and has since resided in St. Louis and in West Virginia. She now lives with her family near Carbondale.
