The Old School Museum is hosting an opening reception for the Illinois Freedom Project exhibition.
Tim Townsend, Superintendent of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, will serve as the guest speaker during the reception. Illinois Freedom Project will be on display Saturday, November 20 through Saturday, December 18, 2021. Visit their Facebook event page for the complete exhibition schedule.
The Illinois Freedom Project presents the story of the fight for freedom in Illinois from eighteenth century French colonial settlements in southwestern Illinois through early twentieth century Chicago. The Project features everyday people in Illinois who struggled against slavery and prejudice and became community, state and national leaders.
Illinois Humanities is sponsoring Illinois Freedom Project in conjunction with the Voices and Votes: Democracy in America exhibition as a complementary traveling exhibition. Illinois Freedom Project explores the pursuit of civil rights by and for African Americans in Illinois with six communities in 2021-22.
