OpenICE: Emerging Dialogues | Claire Chase and Joshua Rubin

OpenICE is a free monthly series exploring the work of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), named “one of the most accomplished and adventurous groups in new music,” (New York Times), in unpretentious and intimate environments.

OpenICE whale iconICE closes its first OpenICE season in partnership with Illinois Humanities with this blockbuster program featuring ICE co-Artistic Directors Claire Chase and Joshua Rubin.

DIALOGUES:

Commissioned as part of Claire Chase’s Density 2036 initiative, George Lewis’ Emergent features live electronics to highlight the urgent virtuosity of Claire’s performance. Boulez’s mesmerizing Dialogue de l’ombre double is a masterpiece of specialized sound and creates a true dialogue between the live clarinetist and his electronic counterpart. Rick Burkhardt’s ingenious theatrical work Simulcast features percussionists in a spoken musical interaction, their words blurred and obscured, creating a dialogue of rhythm and meaning.
