OpenICE is a free monthly series exploring the work of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), named “one of the most adventurous and accomplished groups in new music” (NY Times), in an unpretentious and intimate environment at The Hideout every second Sunday. Ensemble members perform and muse on various pieces from the ICE repertoire, after which a guest speaker from outside the music realm leads a conversation with the audience. This free series is the perfect opportunity to be entertained, educated and inspired, all before dinner and while enjoying a cold drink.
November’s lineup includes ICE’s newest member, saxophone legend Ryan Muncy alongside ICE founder and CEO Claire Chase and cellist Katinka Kleijn.
The concert will feature a world premiere by Jing Jing Luo, a rare work by James Tenney, and a recent work by Chicago-based composer and saxophonist David Reminick.
Featured Selections
Jing Jing Luo: Spirare (WORLD PREMIERE), for flute and cello
Mario Diaz de Leon: Luciform, for flute and electronics
James Tenney: Saxony, for saxophone and electronics
David Reminick: Grey Faces, for saxophone
