As part of the activities that surround the unveiling of the Museum on Main Street exhibition, New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music, the Galena -Jo Daviess Historical Society and Museum will host folk musicians and scholars Chris Vallillo and Bucky Halker as they present a musical journey of Illinois’ roots music with special guest Jim Post. From prairie land to river ways, from immigrant sounds to labor hymns, and from European folk traditions to African American blues and gospel, Illinois has been, and continues to be, a connective highway of the people’s music.
This event is free and open to the public, but will follow a brunch at 11:30 AM at the DeSoto House Hotel Ballroom. Admission for the brunch is $20 per person.
The concert will be followed by a procession to the Galena History Museum for the ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling exhibit: New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music at 2:00 PM.
