Millennium Park Unveiled: Exploring the Architecture

A Road Scholar program by Jeff Mishur

Chicago’s much anticipated Millennium Park opened in the Summer of 2004. This slide lecture features a discussion of the history of this epic project and some its central features including: the Frank O. Gehry designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion and BP Bridge; Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate sculpture; Jaume Plensa’s Crown Fountain; and the Lurie Garden designed by the team of Kathryn Gustafson, Piet Oudolf, and Robert Israel. This program will place certain elements of the park in the context of other recent projects undertaken by its major players, including Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Jeff Mishur earned his BA and MA in Art History from Northern Illinois University and has worked as an art historian and professor for over ten years. He was nominated as Facilitator of the Year by adult learners in the continuing education program at Lewis University and conducts numerous speaking engagements on a variety of art-related topics.
