Major League Baseball in the Midwest: The Three-I League, 1901-1961

This illustrated lecture presentation explores the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League, known also as the Three-I League. The Three-I League was a national force in minor league baseball for the first sixty years of the twentieth century and was the nation’s oldest Class-B minor league, at the time the highest level of minor leagues. The Illinois communities of Bloomington, Danville, Moline, Peoria, and Springfield were all represented. The Three-I league is even documented at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Lou Boudreau, Red Faber, Hank Greenberg, and Burleigh Grimes among others, played in the league before achieving their own levels of baseball fame.
