Images of the Caribbean

Dr. Nancy Cirillo, Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Illinois at Chicago, provides historical and social context to the book jacket art from the H.D. Carberry Collection of Caribbean Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago Library, and illustrates how these works are graphic representations of the contents of the book made marketable through aesthetic appeals to taste and convention and prevailing political and social mores.

A reception follows the presentation.

This event is part of the series, Caribbean Stories: The Art of Life, highlighting H.D. Carberry Caribbean Studies Collection.

The Caribbean Stories series and related events are co-sponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago University Library and The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois.
