A Road Scholar program by Lorraine Schwass
Presented in the first person and dressed in mid-nineteenth-century clothing, Lorraine Schwass gives an engaging talk about public women in the Civil War era. The Northwestern Sanitary Commission, the U.S. Sanitary Commission, and famous volunteers such as Mary Ann Bickerdyke of Galesburg and Mary Livermore of Chicago are discussed within a social and cultural context.
