In These Times and The Public Square at the IHC present an evening with Salon.com Senior Writer Michelle Goldberg and In These Times Senior Editor Christopher Hayes. The two will discuss the influence of the radical Christian doctrine upon lawmaking and politics in American society and the rise of American Theocracy.

Goldberg’s debut book, Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, will be available for sale and signing. The event will take place at In These Times‘ offices, 2040 N. Milwaukee at 7 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested.

In Kingdom Coming, Goldberg reports on Christian Nationalism as a cultural revolution and examines the imminent threat this movement poses to American politics. Combining interviews, testimonies and on the spot reporting, Kingdom Coming offers a unique look at the people behind a potentially dangerous movement.

Goldberg has written and reported on the conservative movement for Salon.com since 2002. She’s also been a columnist for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and for Shift Magazine. Goldberg’s work has appeared in publications including Rolling Stone, The New Republic online, The UK Guardian, The Utne Reader, Newsday and other newspapers nationwide.

Since 2002, Christopher Hayes has gained recognition in the independent media for his in-depth reporting and essays examining current politics. His work has appeared in a variety of publications, including The Nation, The American Prospect, The Washington Monthly and the Chicago Reader. In These Times was pleased to add him to its roster of Contributing Editors in 2004 and a Senior Editor in 2005.
