Everyone’s a Designer/Everyone’s Design continues its journey through the city at the Indian Boundary Cultural Center, a Tudor-style field house designed by architect Clarence Hatzfeld, in the West Ridge neighborhood, known for its tree-lined streets, bungalows, and residential character.

At Indian Boundary Park, the exhibition highlights the home of Karen Burke and Mike Williams, who purchased their bungalow in the 1990s after it had undergone decades of renovations by various owners. Shortly after moving in, Karen and Mike began a labor of love to restore the home to its original 1920s form. Completing much of the renovation work themselves, Karen and Mike looked to their neighbors as “guides” and “shopped” in their alley for original doors, windows, and mailboxes, which are now features of their home. The couple now lives among their various collections, including an array of antique photographic objects.

Everyone’s a Designer/Everyone’s Design, produced by Illinois Humanities, is a free traveling museum exhibition that explores and celebrates everyday Chicagoans’ influence on art and design in the city. Travelling across Chicago’s Cultural Centers, the exhibition tells the stories of 5 people, the homes they’ve made uniquely their own, and the rich design and architectural history of their neighborhoods.
