Three Dvorak in America concert performances at Elgin’s Hemmens Theatre, featuring Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World, accompanied by a visual presentation of 19th-century American landscape paintings; a “Hiawatha Melodrama” featuring a short program of live excerpts from Dvorak’s symphony directly inspired by Longfellow’s epic The Song of Hiawatha, with narration from the poem by noted American actor Danny Glover; and Gottschalk’s Night in the Tropics, jointly performed by ESO’s professional ensemble and the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra.
