Kirsten Akre, of the Garfield Park Conservatory, will lead the first of two workshops on community gardens in Chicago.

Kirsten will talk about how the community gardens movement began and describe the different kinds of gardens that exist. She will also bring in a guest speaker who is involved in the movement to talk about their experience and why they feel this work is important.

The session will end with a writing and possible hands-on gardening exercise.
