Classical Mythology in the Modern World

A Road Scholar program by Thomas Sienkewicz

The Myths of the ancient Greeks and Romans continue to be infused into American culture in the 21st century. In this illustrated lecture (slide or power point), the speaker will address the use of myths in a variety of contexts including paintings, sculpture, cinema, advertising, corporation logos, and, especially, newspaper and magazine cartoons. Of particular interest are the ways in which Americans have adapted these ancient myths to their own cultural needs and purposes. This presentation can be adapted to various audience levels.
