Join us for this special screening of the award-winning documentary Louder Than a Bomb, a film about passion, competition, teamwork, and trust. It’s about the joy of being young, and the pain of growing up. It’s about speaking out, making noise, and finding your voice. It also just happens to be about poetry. A panel with filmmakers Jon Siskel and Greg Jacobs and Kevin Coval, co-founder of Louder Than a Bomb — the largest youth poetry festival in the country — will follow the screening. Plus, LTAB poets will grace us with a performance.
More about Civic Cinema
An exhilarating series of films, forums, and conversations, Civic Cinema uses the most exceptionally creative and engaging documentary films of our times to help communities talk about the most pressing social issues facing us. The documentaries we screen and discuss challenge many of the mainstream representations of critical social issues. Art, in this case, becomes a way of thinking about how history and truth are represented and a way of promoting media literacy.
This program is co-sponsored by The Public Square, Chicago Cultural Center, Young Chicago Authors, Teachers for Social Justice, Critical Encounters, Columbia College Chicago and Chicago Freedom School.
Free and open to the public. Regisration is full.
