Chicago Black Artists Show Plus Networking & Discussions

The Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center programs encourage artists in their ability to create social change through their artistic and cultural work.

A group art show featuring works by Chicago black artists will be on display for October and November 2012. Diverse art by diverse artists represent the theme – Chicago Block by Block: Stories by Black Artists.

This exhibit’s theme is Block by Block- how do you see your block (or a block in Chicago)? We hope that artists will, through their art, depict neighborhood blocks in Chicago and tell their stories. What is the history of the block? and/or what are the issues on the block now?

DISCUSSIONS:
October 27 (1:00) Discussion of African American heroes from North Lawndale, Chicago, and beyond; including black artists to be nominated for statues in local Peace Parks. Also black artists talk about black neighborhoods at 2:00 on November 3. These are opportunities for black artists to network.
