Check the Rhime explores the historical and classical foundations of hip-hop music and culture. We trace the art form from its inception and original mission, and provide an in-depth look at the vocal pioneers (i.e., godfathers and godmothers) of the movement. Through examples in video, music and lyrics, examine the legacy of hip-hop and learn more about the cultural and political forces that paved the way for its creation. Audiences will also learn about hip-hop’s international appeal, including its current manifestations in spoken word, and look at how the art form has influenced cultures throughout Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.
