Brown v. Board 50 Years Later: Brown and Civil Rights on International Stage

The Brown decision had enormous implications for race relations in the United States but there were global implications as well. The Cold War was in full swing in 1954 and the existence of legally sanctioned segregation was a problem for the United States in terms of its international image. This panel will explore the global context in which the Brown decision occurred and some of the impetus for and impact of the decision as they relate to U.S. Foreign policy.
