This lecture centers on an historical overview on the native people of the Greater Antilles. In addition, it will investigate indigenous and other influences in the Caribbean, ranging from ancient to contemporary archaeological records and ethno-historical studies to oral histories from both scholars and community audience members. Dr. Curet will offer a short review of Taino culture as described by early Spanish colonizers and modern archaeology; and Chancellor Miguel Rodriguez will present a discussion of the influence of the Tainos in Puerto Rico contemporary culture.
