Screening and discussion of Beyond Brown: Pursing the Dream. Members of the panel are Professors Jose Arce, Modern Languages, Richard Maye, Sociology, and Scott Rohrer, History and Political Science, and Donathan Brown, a current student in political science and communication studies. The program illustrates issues that have arisen in American education since the historic decisions of the Supreme Court in the cases collectively known as Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Kansas, which struck down legally sanctioned racial segregation in public schools. The decisions, which were handed down in 1954 and 1955, are being commemorated by Illinois College in cooperation with the Illinois Humanities Council as a part of the year-long series of events focusing on the Brown cases and their impact on American society.
The event is free and open to the community. Convocation credit is available for I.C. students who attend.
