Ark in the Park: History of The Lincoln Park Zoo

A Road Scholar program by Mark Rosenthal

Drawing visitors to the heart of Chicago’s north side for 135 years, Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in America. This particular history of the zoo combines archival materials, photographs, and oral histories to chronicle the zoo’s development and the impact the zoo has made not just on Chicago, but on zoos nationwide. Stories are told of the people and animals, some famous, others unknown who helped shape the zoo through time. The history is illustrated with a slide program.
