Architectural Salvage as an Integral Part of Historic Preservation: Preserving Parts when the Whole Must be Lost

A Road Scholar Program by Rebecca Hunter

One objective of historical preservation is to save, restore, and venerate old homes. Yet, some homes can neither be saved on the original site nor moved to another location, and face demolition. Rebecca Hunter discusses ways to further the efforts of preservation when a house cannot be saved or moved. Learn how to recognize the value of architectural artifacts for the benefit and restoration of other old buildings, and how to locate commercially available architectural artifacts. Rebecca Hunter received two master’s degrees from Governors State University and currently serves as an independent researcher on architectural history. She has published two books, Putting Sears Homes on the Map and Sears, Roebuck Book of Barns, and has authored numerous articles. She has taught various subjects for over twenty-five years.
