An Intergenerational Approach to Family History

A Road Scholar program by Patricia Marton

This workshop presentation orients children and adult participants into the methods and techniques of oral history and oral interviews. Perfect for family members and retirement home residents, these interviews will be written in story form, with illustrations from family sources, books, and magazines. Additional activities, including film viewings, music sessions, and field trips to museums and garden shops, based on the interests and experience of the older participants, are suggested.

Patricia Marton earned her Ph.D. in education from the University of Illinois-Champaign. She earned an appointment to the Harvard Graduate School of Education and was a visiting scholar at the University of Trondheim, Norway. She ahs lectured extensively on storytelling and creative writing/drama for intergenerational audiences across the country. Ms. Marton was featured in the 2003-2004 IHC Road Scholars Speakers Bureau catalogue.
