A Team Apart: Segregation in Sports, 1924-1954

This program will reflect on the African-American high school and SINU basketball teams in southernmost Illinois from 1924-1954.

Judy Travelstead will talk about the history of the Southern Illinois Conference of Colored High Schools. She was the Libraria at the Southern Illinoisan newspaper in Carbondale for over 30 years before retiring, SIUC grad and a longtime member of the board of directors of the Union County Historical and Genealogy Society. Currently, she is on the board of directors of Friends of Morris Library, SIUC.
