2017 Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards Celebration

This event is a celebration of the winning poets in the 2017 Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards contest.

This statewide contest was run by Gwendolyn Brooks herself from 1970 until her death in 2000, and is being revived by Illinois Humanities as part of the Our Miss Brooks 100 activities.

Some 260 poets, from grades K through 12, submitted poems. There are 19 winners and 26 honorable mentions, selected from 260 entries.

The celebration on Oct. 7th is the kickoff for the Logan Center’s 5 Year Bash, is free and open to the public, and will include readings by the winning students as well as by veteran poets alike.
